The former F.E. Myers home on Center Street was given to Ashland College and served as their music building until the 1970’s. The college sold the building to the Good Shepherd Home and the impressive structure was soon torn down despite public outcry. Alta Sims of Zanesville, Ohio researched the homes on the street to gain status on the National Register of Historic Places, hoping to protect these homes from from demolition.

Several years ago the McClellan Home
was in danger of being razed when a family
had it moved in order to preserve the structure.

Ashland City Ordinance 51-05

In 2005 the City of Ashland passed Ordinance No. 51-05 “In recognition of the need for the establishment of a public body with authority to act upon changes to structures in the Historic District, and in other parts of the City as established by Council, and in order to encourage changes that are compatible with the restoration movement now in progress, the Historic Preservation Board ... is here by established.”
